So as I was doing my devotions this morning, something kind of popped into my head. We all probably have a Bible verse or passage, that figuratively (possibly literally) scares the crap out of us. It’s that part of Scripture that we kind of try to stay away from. Like, maybe if we don’t go near it, it’s not really there.
So I decided to give this type of verse or passage, a name. I’m calling it the “Heart Attack Verse”.
There definitely is one passage in particular that does that (almost give me a heart attack every time I read it) to me. It’s one that really got my attention shortly after I became a Youth Leader, and started preaching. It’s one that even until this day still kinda gives me the creeps. Because it declares that my whole life is on the line because of the fact that I am a speaker.
“On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name? ’ Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’” Matthew 7:22-23
Even though some bible verses scare us, they should make us want to do the best that we can to live a righteous life. I don’t think God necessarily wants to scare us in to submission, but he wants us to know the consequences of our actions on earth, so we can know what to stay away from while we strive for glory.
So here’s my question: What is your Heart Attack Verse?
