“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:13
“We will wear compassion; we will wear it on our chests, and sing with love in our throats; like a child, it’s all I know.” As Cities Burn (Love Jealous One, Love)
Compassion: [a feeling of distress and pity for the suffering or misfortune of another, often including the desire to alleviate it]
When I think of “Christians” these days, words that pop in to my mind are: Greedy, Selfish, Judgmental, Full of Hate, and I could go on for days, trust me. Which automatically makes me think that if I as a Christ-follower thinks of other “Christians” this way, then I can only imagine how other non-christians see us. The bible calls us to “Wear Compassion” for the dying around us. It’s funny cause I don’t really see that a lot. I hear more people making fun of homeless people, then reaching out to them. I hear more conversations trash-talking single teenage mothers, than reaching out to help them take care of their baby. I see more “Christians” condemning “sinners” to hell, than reaching out to save them from the hell they are facing, and yet WE are called to wear compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; for the people who don’t know Christ?
You would never think that the bible demands us be compassionate towards this dying world. I’m saying this as someone who is just as equally guilty of leading people astray by my words and actions. It’s time for our generation to stand up and say that we no longer want to be known as a generation of ignorance, but as a generation that wants to share compassion to a broken world. It’s time for us to back up what we say we believe. It’s not okay just to proclaim God’s love without showing it. Faith without works is dead. (James 2:17) We refuse to be seen as just another culture of Christianity; that is full of blind leaders leading blind followers. It’s time to stand up and spread Compassion to the ends of the earth like the bible demands us, as Christ-followers to do.
Rant is over.
